Latest Stuff and Tings

So as I mentioned earlier Love Ire & Song arrived yesterday and I’ve been giving it some intensive listening. As you would expect it picks up where Sleep Is For The Week left off. There’s no radical shift in sound and no reason for there to be so.

The songs are still loaded with Frank Turner’s dry wit and fuelled by cynicism, but my first impressions left me feeling this is an even more serious exploration of life post-adolencence. A subject close to my own heart.

His refusal to accept the drab life that society recommends which most of us tend to find ourselves stumbling into while following our own path of least resistance gives me hope that maybe we all have a chance. The single Photosynthesis is a great example of this sentiment, give it a listen.

I’m not gonna give a breakdown of each song on the album or even talk about which ones are my favourites not least of all because I don’t think I’ve decided myself, though I do keep listening to “To Take You Home” and “Long Live The Queen” which btw is not a song to listen to on your own after drinking substantial amounts of cheap vodka.

There’s a greater sense of sadness behind Love Ire and Song than previous albums and further allusions to past experiences. And I’m sure that it’s these experiences that give Frank Turner such wide appeal. Experiences that are nothing incredible, nothing extraordinary, nothing that any one of us would have any difficulty relating to and I admire the fact that he can sing so honestly about things that are so personal.
