Manatees @ The Yorkshire House
So I went to see a show last night and wound up hanging out of a moving van trying to board Caraway’s tour bus on the dual carriageway. Happy Times.
Meanwhile, 4 hours earlier…
Caraway kicked off the night at the Yorkshire House, this is the first time I’ve seen ‘em and they played what I felt were some pretty strong songs. They were let down slightly by some sloppy playing in places but nothing 2 weeks intensive practicing can’t cure.
This was quickly followed by Montana who were fookin’ ace and an instant bar staff favourite… I should probably mention that it was at this point that dancing behind the bar had begun in earnest… These guys had a Micro Korg, played a blistering set, got distracted mid way by dancing barmaids and singer Dan would like to remind ladies that he’s young, free and single.
Flatlands played next and by this time I had joined in the dancing behind the bar and was serving drinks too. Alcohol intake at the time means I’m now having great difficulty remembering how they sounded, but I must’ve been impressed cause I bought a CD so I’ll write a review soon.
By the time Manatees played I have to admit I was half cut, and on a school night too! Manatees rocked, which only bought about further dancing.
The size of Manatees drum kit caused some debate: large drum kit or tiny drummer? Either way the drumming was awesome and Manatees are definitely a band worth seeing!
At this point, working behind the bar paid off as someone bought me a drink and things got silly…
